Check the condition of the pad when a key is sticky. If the pad is old and hard, it probably means a new pad is needed. To fix the problem temporarily, place a piece of absorbent paper, such as powder paper, a thin cloth or paper towel under the pad, close the key for a few seconds. Repeat with a different area of the cloth or paper several times. Besides aging, a sticky pad could be caused by moisture and dirt. To avoid sticky pads, don’t eat or chew gum before playing. After each practice, use a swab to clear the moisture from the inside of your saxophone. Swab each section individually as you put your instrument away. Carefully wipe off the outside of the saxophone and the keys to remove oils and perspiration caused by your hands. |
